EUFEPS
Workshop
Opportunities
and Challenges
in Vaccine Delivery

September
15-17 • 2008 •
University of Geneva • Site d’Archamps
• France
Scope
& Aim & Objectives
This workshop will combine basic immunological aspects as well as
contributions from an end-user perspective with vaccine delivery
issues. Moreover, it will provide scientists and managers from academia
and industry, involved in the vaccine development process, with
first-hand information on the challenges and opportunities in vaccine
delivery.
The Workshop opens on Monday, September 15, 2008, at 09:00 (Pre-registration
on Sunday, September 14) and it closes on Wednesday, September 17,
at 12:30.
Workshop
Sessions
The Workshop is structured into five Speaker Sessions and four Breakout
Sessions.
Speaker Sessions include:
- Vaccine delivery:
Basic principles
- Routes of administration:
Alternatives for the needle
- Pharmaceutical aspects:
Delivery systems, formulation,
characterisation and stability
- Case studies
- Regulatory, industrial
and academic perspectives
The breakouts sessions
offer a discussion forum for problem solving, conclusions and recommendations
regarding ‘hot’ vaccine delivery topics, like choice
of the delivery route, how to choose the ‘right’ antigens
and adjuvants, formulation, characterisation and stability issues,
as well as clinical aspects.
Dear
Participants
of the EUFEPS Workshop on Opportunities and Challenges in
Vaccine Delivery,
Louis
Pasteur, whose achievements in
vaccination research are invaluable, was born in Dôle
in the Jura mountains, not far from the venue of this meeting.
International organisations, such as the WHO, the Red Cross/Crescent
and the UN, along with a number of pharmaceutical and biotech
companies of different size and the Universities of Geneva
and Lausanne being very active in the Life Sciences, have
their home today at the Lake of Geneva. These are more than
enough reasons to choose this region as the venue for this
very important and scientifically challenging meeting. Apart
from this, Geneva and its surroundings offer a rich variety
of cultural, historical and environmental treasures for you
to enjoy during your stay. As the local organiser of this
meeting, I am looking forward to welcome you to Geneva and
Archamps.

Organisers
EUFEPS (European Federation for Pharmaceutical
Sciences) was founded 1991. Its mission is to advance excellence
in the pharmaceutical sciences and innovative drug research and
to represent the interests of scientists engaged in drug research
and development, drug regulation and drug policymaking. Currently,
it links scientific societies and associations in 24 European countries.
In addition, there are member institutions and more than 600 individual
members of EUFEPS.
FIP (International Pharmaceutical Federation) is
the world-wide federation of national pharmaceutical (professional
and scientific) associations, with a mission to represent and serve
pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences around the globe. Through its
member associations, FIP connects, represents and serves more a
million pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists around the world.
FIP was founded in The Hague, The Netherlands, in 1912 and still
has its central office in The Hague. Although FIP is a federation
of associations, any pharmacist or pharmaceutical scientist can
apply to become an Individual Member of FIP. For more information
on FIP and its activities, please visit www.fip.org
