EUFEPS Conference
on
Drug Transporters:
Integrative Approaches in ADME Research
A unique discussion
forum for scientists from the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory
agencies, and academic institutions.
Christiansborg
Palace.
April 19-21 •
2004 • Moltke’s Palace
• Copenhagen Denmark
Scope
and aim
This three-day Conference will be devoted to recent advances
in the study of membrane transporters with respect to bioavailability
and drug disposition in the body. It will cover an integrated
view of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion
as well as interactions during these processes and their clinical
implications. A particular aim of the Conference is to critically
review in vitro and in vivo methodologies
that are used to investigate the role of membrane transporters
in pharmacokinetics. Ample meeting time will be devoted to round-table
discussions in addition to the invited state-of-the-art lectures.
The organisers envision this conference as an endeavour in scientific
communication and integration. It is an AAPS-EUFEPS Exchange
event, following on from the AAPS Workshop on Drug Transporters
in February 2003.
Sessions
of the Conference include:
-
Advanced
methodologies to study drug transport: Assessment of the state-of-art
-
Renal,
hepatic, intestinal and placental transporters: Expression,
regulation and substrate specificity
-
Prediction
of in vivo transport from in vitro and animal
data
-
Transport-metabolism
relationship in drug disposition
-
Clinical
implications of transporters: Functional polymorphisms, drug
delivery and drug interactions
-
Reports
on outcomes of group discussions
Format
& Preliminary Programme
Using a similar format to previous EUFEPS conferences, key segments
of the process are broken down into a number of sessions, each
with lectures and discussions. In the round-table discussions,
the topics will be discussed further in smaller groups and supplementary
information added from the participants of the session. The discussion
leaders and co-chairs will present the interactive discussion
summary reports on the third afternoon of the Conference.

Organiser
EUFEPS was founded in 1991. Its mission is to advance excellence
in the pharmaceutical sciences and innovative drug research, and
to represent the interests of scientists engaged in drug research
and development, drug regulation and drug policymaking. Currently,
it links scientific societies and associations in 25 European
countries and there are 500 individual members of EUFEPS.
